My sketchbook and work...

As my alternative sketchbook  I decided to use an old rustic step-ladder. To show all my work I use brown labels, which will be attached onto the ladder by rusty pins or nails.
This is my sketchbook;

When I went out on my walk, I collected a couple of feathers. I then drew four feathers and I am going to mount them onto an old piece of wood with either rusty nails or pins.

While out on my walk I took a picture, of an old gateway. I drew this and then experimented with it, using black ink, coffee, newspaper and cream paint.

My 1 Hour Walk! :)

I went on my walk around my farm where I live. As i said in another post, I chose to do 3 things every 15 minutes: Take pictures, think of a word and collect something. I then edited the pictures and changed them into black and white, as my whole project is based around black, brown colours. Here are some of the pictures i have taken:

    Here are all the pictures I have taken, they will all be on my step ladders (sketchbook) to show what I have done.
I have also produced colour copies of these pictures and they will all be attached together with bale twine, to show the order that i took the photos. It will be my own journey!

Slates and Stones

Richard Long created this:

I thought this piece of work he designed stood out, and it was very effective. To me this sculpture has some sort of meaning, like he his on a journey, or he his trying to fit something together in his mind. This piece of work inspired me to do a design of my own, using old slates. Here it is:

Richard Long

Richard Long creates his artwork through the inspiration he gets when out on different walks, in different places. He uses different materials such as leaves, stones, twigs etc.
He inspired me to go on a walk that will last for 1 hour, and I chose to do 3 things every 15 minutes.
  • Take pictures
  • Think of word
  • Collect something
My four words I chose were; Crowded, Freshness, Uneven and Protection
On another post I will show you my walk pictures, and say how and what i have been inspired to do with them.

Here on some of Richard Long's work:

Pit-Firing and Pottery

I had an idea that I would make some clay pots and place them on the steps of my ladders along with some photos. I then thought of the idea of placing my pots into a pit fire, which will leave the pottery with a unique finished.

This is a pit fire.....
I would really love to try this out

These are examples of pottery that have been in pit fires;

They have an amazing finish to them.

Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy is an artist who collaborates with nature to make his creations.

I find this picture really effective. Its like the start of a journey.

Nature and landscapes could be my starting point to create my subject matter.

Alternative Sketchbook

First Thoughts

Step Ladders

I thought I could use a step ladder for my alternative sketchbook, I could place objects on the steps and have images/paintings/drawings attached with string/ribbon onto the ladder.

It could either be an old fashioned wooden one or maybe a new updated metal one.

Any Thoughts?????
